THE risk of flooding in areas immediately surrounding Bankstown Airport might have increased because of a large amount of landfill deposited on the airport site in recent years, according to two Bankstown councilors.
Cr Stromborg’s stance on issues that could see further expansion of Bankstown Airport is far too late and reeks of political grandstanding at its best. Our councillors have short memories after their verbal abuse towards three local residents, who addressed council’s proposal for a land swap agreement in April 1999.
I strongly oppose the expansion of Bankstown airport and I’m pleased that Crs Stromborg and Winterbottom are moving to have Bankstown Council rescind its previous recommendation to the Minister for Land and Water Conservation, as previously requested by many Bankstown residents, including myself.
A spokeswoman for the Bankstown Bushland Society, Ms Pat Bell, said “the society is concerned that council’s recommendation to the Minister for Land and Water Conservation that the land swap is in the public interest, may have been based on inadequate information.”
