Airport land exchange
THE TORCH Newspaper – 21/04/1999
A land exchange being considered by Bankstown Council and Bankstown Airport Limited (BAL) has alarmed local groups.
Bankstown Council could swap a block of land on the corner of Milperra Road and Henry Lawson Drive with BAL land in Third Avenue, Condell Park.
Following recent public discussion about a proposal to bring regional aircraft to Bankstown Airport, activists fear a motel would not be built just to cater for people learning to fly. But airport authorities have denied this.
The motel could be built on land adjacent to Bankstown Basketball Stadium in Third Avenue, Condell Park, which was recently advertised for public comment, Bankstown Airport Community and Environment Forum (BACEF) spokeswoman Miss Sonya McKay said.
“The council plant to exchange land with BAL ……….. this project is now available to the corporation.” BAL spokesman Mr Howard Knox said “it’s got nothing to do with the so called expansion of the airport”.
Mr Know said the motel plan had been discussed for 10 years and the other land was for access to the museum.
