CALL FOR INQUIRY
The State Government should urgently investigate “a series of bushland management blunders in Bankstown” according to the Total Environment Centre. The Total Environment Centre director Mr Jeff Angel has said “we have numerous concerns about mismanagement of urban bushland in the Bankstown Local Government Area. The problems give grave cause to doubt Bankstown Council’s competency for urban bushland management.”

A spokeswoman for the Bankstown Bushland Society, Ms Pat Bell, said “the society is concerned that council’s recommendation to the Minister for Land and Water Conservation that the land swap is in the public interest, may have been based on inadequate information.”

Anti aircraft noise groups have demanded that the Federal Government abandon plans to build an airport at Badgerys Creek. A meeting of a 30 group alliance, including groups from the eastern suburbs, the North Shore, Bankstown and western Sydney, called for a renewed search for a site outside the Sydney area.
