Development challenged

Developments at Bankstown Airport were “another example of the total disregard airport management have towards residents.” and would increase traffic in the area, according to a community group.
The group were responding to the fact that two fast food stores and a supermarket are being constructed on the corner of Milperra Road and Henry Lawson Drive.
Bankstown Airport Communiety and Environment Forum conveyor Sonya McKay siad she had been told by the airport’s community relations officer that the development would be beneficial to the local community.
“Local residents, in particular, already know about the amount of congestiong that the intersections has to deal with particularly in peak hours where major bottlenecks occur,” she said.
BACEF’s Chipping Norton coordinator Maria Abella said she had already noticed increased traffic problems with the intersection.
A Bankstown Airport spokesman said there had been community consultation for two years about the development.
“It was know at large that this was going to happen” he said.
The development had been an agenda item on the Bankstown Community Consultative Committee for two years, he said.
“It’s been discussed and advertised for two years” he said.
